Quality Matters Essentials (QME)

What is Quality Matters Essentials (QME)?

Quality Matters Essentials (QME) is an internal peer review process designated to increase the quality of our fully online courses by solely focusing on obtaining the 21 “must haves” out of the 43 standards from the Quality Matters rubric. This process will run parallel to our Quality Matters program to strategically identify courses that are on the path to receiving full Quality Matters certification. QM Essentials will serve as a gateway to maximize our efforts in increasing the quality and improving the student experience of our fully online courses.

How it Works

Every semester, a sample of all our course offerings will be selected to run through the QME process, 25% in Spring and Fall and 50% in Summer. In introducing the Quality Matters Essentials process, each selected course will be evaluated against the QME rubric , in which we have aligned with the must haves for the Quality Matters Essentials process. The standards that will be used to identify when a course has successfully met the the Quality Matters Essentials program are: 1.1, 1.2, 1.8, 1.9, 2.1, 2.2, 2.3, 2.4, 3.1, 3.2, 3.3, 4.1, 5.1, 5.2, 5.3, 5.4, 8.1, 8.2, 8.3, 8.4, 8.5.

Passed Review

Courses identified as meeting the QME standards will be awarded the “Certified Quality Course” badge. You will receive an email confirming the QME designation by your college’s Lead Instructional Designer. At that point, your instructional designer will be adding the  “Certified Quality Course” badge under the Course Awards section of your course syllabus.

Failed Review

You will be notified by your instructional designer if your course did not meet the QME standards.Your Instructional Designer will provide a list of recommendations for the unmet QME standards. This will be a great opportunity to work together in identifying the areas that need improvement to easily incorporate them into your course.
